Fitting an internal cast iron Victorian Ogee cast iron stopend
As long as you’re somewhat familiar with cast iron guttering components, fitting an internal stopend should prove to be a quick job.
Assuming you’re fitting your left hand end to a cut length of pipe, you’ll need to make sure you’ve tied any burrs and swarf away from the joining area. When you’ve made sure the join is clear from debris, you should apply a suitable silicone sealant – before putting the stop end into place.
While the sealant will make the join watertight – it won’t hold the internal stopend in place, so you’ll need to fit a suitable retaining bolt into the bolt hole on the bottom of the part.
Working on a listed property?
If you’re working on a property that currently has Victorian Ogee cast iron rainwater gutters and downpipes, you’ll need to make sure that they – or any part of the building – isn’t protected by a conservation order. As the owner of the property you will know if this is the case – but if you’re working on the property for someone else, you’ll need to make sure that they have carried out the appropriate checks.
