When you create a soil system, building regulations state that any soil vent needs to be at least 900mm above the level of any window. This ensures any unpleasant odours are released appropriately – but it also makes an attractive perch for birds, an potential nest hole for squirrels, and an upright that can attract debris on a windy day.

To keep you stack clear, you’ll need protection at the top of the vent. Our galvanised wire balloons offer exactly that.

Fitting

Fitting a galvanised wire balloon is a simple job – especially if you’re yet to put up your soil vent.

The legs of the balloon slide into the 110mm pipe you’ve used to create your vent – and because they protrude slightly more than the 110mm diameter of the pipe, they grip firmly to the inside. As a result, any side-to-side motion caused by wind won’t disturb the balloon. The diameter of the galvanised wire balloon stops over-insertion too.

Should you need to remove the steel wire balloon, it’ll simply slide back out – allowing you to clean and maintain your stack.
