Whichever size pipework you’re dealing with, you’ll need the appropriate alkathene pipe fittings – and again, we carry a huge range, including these stop tap compression connectors.
What is a stop tap / stop cock connector?
A stop tap connection is very similar to a standard pipe coupler that you’d use to connect two lengths of MDPE pipe designed to carry water. The difference is, this connector has a valve that can be closed, preventing mains water from accessing the property.
This is essential if you need to isolate the property (or part of the property) from the supply for maintenance or fitting work.
How do you fit a stop cock fitting?
Fitting any compression fitting works with the same principles – whether or not it’s a corner, a straight connection, or a stop tap / stop cock type isolator fittings.
First, you need to isolate the section of pipe you’re cutting from the supply. Since you’re fitting a stop tap – it’s likely you’ll need to cap the pipe off. You’ll also need to use pipe liners to ensure the pipe withstands the pressure that the fitting will rely on to hold.
The fitting has two large plastic nuts at either end – these are designed to apply pressure through the fitting as they are tightened onto the thread. As such, you should loosen these until around half the thread is visible – then insert your cut pipe.
The cut pipe should be de-burred (and chamfered if you’re working with pipes over 40mm in diameter) then inserted into the nut, through the split ring and o-ring.
When inserted fulled, you should tighten the fitting by hand – although for fittings over 40mm, it’s advisable to use a wrench designed to tighten compression fixings.
