Nylon Manhole Keys

Manufactured from a high-grade nylon material provides a lightweight key with the strength to perform. Ideally positioned for lifting lighter covers, nylon is resilient to corrosion and comfortable to handle.

Heavy Duty Ductile Iron Keys

An iron key offers the strongest performance and is ideal for removing the most heavy-duty manhole top.

Created from a single-piece construction, they often zinc-plated to combat corrosion and offer an extended life of service. They are available for medium and heavy-duty operations due to the additional strength they offer over their nylon counterparts.

Both our nylon and ductile iron keys are available with T-shape and D-shape handles. The D-shape options are also known as Loop handles.

D-shape handles are designed to offer a single hand lift where appropriate whereas the T-shape is primarily utilised as a two-handed lift.

The oblong-shaped key is designed for medium weight lift operation.

Manhole key guide of operation

Manual operation using lifting keys is a simple procedure, but the user should always be aware of the correct way to lift any item.

1. Always lift from the knees to avoid strain and damage to the back. Always keep a straight back, lifting with bent knees, paying special consideration to heavy duty manhole lifting.
2. Never use an ill-fitting key. It won’t provide the secure fit required and could lead to accident and injury.
3. Insert the key into the recessed hole and turn to secure the appropriate secure fitting.
4. A single person should lift a limit of 25kg. For heavier drain covers an additional operative should be brought to the job.
5. Traditional covers should be lifted vertically. There are many types of cover available in today’s market so check with provided documentation on the ideal way to remove specific covers.
